Project Description

The Whitehawk Boulevard Extension/SW Connector project has been proposed by the City of Orting to improve traffic flow through and around the city while improving two intersections with new roundabouts.

The project is in the design phase. After a 4-year permitting delay, the city received NEPA Categorial Exclusion on January 12, 2026, which allows us to move into the right-of-way phase.  To date, grant funding has been obtained to develop preliminary drawings, a biological assessment, critical area report, and determination of floodplain impacts.

Project Highlights

  • Reduced congestion in downtown Orting.
  • Reduced travel time around the city.
  • 2800 ft of roadway constructed from Calistoga to Whitehawk Boulevard.
  • Two roundabouts will be built to improve traffic flow. One at SR-162 & Whitehawk intersection and the other at Calistoga & Kansas St SW intersection.
  • New lahar evacuation route / trail, sidewalks, and bike trails.
