Public Notice: Water Main Flushing
May 11th - May 23rd- 9:00pm - 5:00am
Orting Public Works annually flushes our water system to maintain clean, reliable drinking water.
Flushing removes rust, sediment, and mineral deposits, ensuring optimal water quality.
Why Flushing is Important? Flushing clears buildup in pipes, ensuring water quality. It also checks hydrant
functionality, fire flows, and system maintenance needs.
How We Flush Pipelines? Multiple fire hydrants are opened simultaneously, increasing water flow and
velocity. Flushing begins overnight and progresses from water storage tanks outward.
What to Expect During Flushing? High visibility signs placed days prior indicate flushing areas. Temporary
water pressure decreases are normal. Discolored water may occur due to sediment disturbance.
What to Do if Water is Discolored? Discolored water may vary from light brown to dark tea coloration.
Cloudy water contains harmless air bubbles that dissipate over time. Run cold water for a few minutes to
clear sediment. Remove faucet aerators/screens and avoid using water-intensive appliances during
flushing.
