The City of Orting has a "Strong Mayor" form of government. This means that the Mayor is the Chief Executive Officer of the City and its administration. Most small city mayors work another job, so it is typical for them to appoint a City Administrator, a full-time professional manager, to supervise the day-to-day activities of the city.

Message Regarding Public Meetings

FROM: Mayor Joshua Penner

On March 13, 2020, I signed a Proclamation of Emergency due to the COVID-19 outbreak to initiate emergency operations and utilize emergency powers. Pursuant to my emergency powers, and to comply with the Governor’s Orders requiring social distancing and meetings, I hereby order and suspend any City rules and procedures that do not allow telephonic or virtual City Council meetings until the emergency is declared over. This includes, but is not limited to, allowing council, staff and the public to attend City meetings via phone or other electronic means.
