Notice: Lagoon Dredging Project Begins 7/27/26

Post Date:07/24/2026 3:30 PM

On Monday July 27th the City of Orting's Water Resource Recovery Facility will begin dredging its treatment lagoon to restore design capacity and ensure compliance with state environmental regulations. The first phase of this multi-year, cost-effective effort requires hauling, increasing truck traffic in the Carbon River Landing and Edge neighborhoods for approximately 2-3 weeks. Additionally, during this work, residents may notice stronger-than-normal odors in the area. We appreciate your patience as this necessary maintenance is completed.

Project & Traffic Details
Timeline: Monday, July 27 through Friday, August 14
Daily Hours: 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday
Affected Areas: Truck traffic will be routed through the Carbon River Landing and River’s Edge neighborhoods.

Key Community Benefits
Capacity Restoration: Dredging removes accumulated solids, restoring the lagoon's original design capacity.
Environmental Protection: Keeps our waterways clean and compliant with Washington State Department of Ecology standards.
Fiscal Responsibility: Regular, phased maintenance is the most cost-effective way to protect the ratepayer's investment in city infrastructure.
