Dear Community Members,
The City of Orting has been advised that CodeRED by Crisis24 has informed all users nationwide that they were victim to a targeted attack by an organized cybercriminal group. Crisis24 has notified us that during the attack, some user data stored within their system was removed. Specifically, Crisis24 has said:
“It appears that the impacted dataset may contain information on OnSolve CodeRED users: name, address, email address, phone numbers and/or associated passwords used to create user profiles for alerts. If the same password is used by users for any other personal or business accounts, those passwords should be changed immediately."
Additionally, Crisis24 has informed us that they have discovered some data points posted on the internet that are similar to the customer data that was removed during the attack, however, Crisis24 is unable to confirm the exact origin of the data posted.
The City was in the process of converting its alert system from the CodeRED platform to Genasys alerting when this incident occurred and we have since terminated our use of the CodeRED system. Please note that the conversion of accounts to the Genasys system was intended to be performed by exporting user data from CodeRED into the new system. However, because of the removal of user data from the CodeRED system, you may be required to create a new account on the Genasys system.
The City encourages all CodeRED users to change any compromised passwords immediately and to contact credit bureaus to ensure their personal identifying information has not been compromised. The City was among hundreds of agencies impacted by this nationwide cybersecurity attack. If you have any concerns or questions, please reach out to CodeRED directly at crsupport@crisis24.com.
