Are you ready for the next flood?
The City of Orting has two large rivers that are susceptible to annual flooding events that pose threats to life and safety and may cause significant property damage. Large rivers are the Puyallup and the Carbon. Approximately 80% of Orting is located within the 100-year floodplain consisting of nearly 2,000 individual parcels. Snow melt from the Cascade Mountain range contributes substantially to flooding, and ongoing development within the City and the surrounding areas continues to displace natural areas that have historically functioned as flood storage.
