Officer Gabreluk started his career in law enforcement in May of 1998 as a Police and Fire dispatcher for Valley Communications Center located in Kent, Washington. Two years into dispatching various South King County Police and Fire agencies, he decided that being out in the field was what he really wanted to do.
In June of 2000, Officer Gabreluk was hired as a Police Officer by the Federal Way Police Department, the city in which he was raised. In early 2003, Officer Gabreluk became the City of Federal Way’s first narcotics K-9 handler and was paired with a one-year-old yellow Labrador retriever named, “Diesel.” Officer Gabreluk and K-9 Diesel completed four successful years as a K-9 team with the Federal Way Police Department assisting patrol and detectives with hundreds of narcotics investigations. During those four years, Officer Gabreluk became involved in various technology projects assisting the city’s IT department with the testing and management of the department’s mobile computer systems. The experience he gained here was a key factor in the soon-after creation of a mobile communications computer program now available for use by 26 South King County Police and Fire agencies.
In April of 2007, Officer Gabreluk and Diesel accepted a position with the Orting Police Department and were asked to establish its own narcotics detection K-9 program. Due to budget cuts the program was eliminated in 2009. Today, Officer Gabreluk works patrolling the streets of Orting and assisting the department with technology issues.
