SR 162 RECHANNELIZATION PROJECT
SR 162 PROJECT FLYER & SCHEDULE The downtown construction project is at a standstill until approximatley the second week of January, 2010. Weather permitting, you should see the rock wall in the park re-constructed and some landscaping finished. The new turn-of-the-century lights and the signalization are scheuled to be completed in March, 2010. WHY IS THIS PROJECT NEEDED?
SCHEDULE UPDATE - DECEMBER, 2009
Traffic modeling predicts the Washington Avenue (SR 162) and Calistoga Street Intersection will operate at a failing level of service in the year 2030. This project will add left turn lanes, extend the right turn lane approaching the intersection on SR 162 from the North, and install a new traffic signal with the ability to control the additional left turns. In addition new street lights, landscaping, and other amenities such as benches and planters will be installed to beautify Washington Avenue.
WHAT CONSTRUCTION IMPACTS CAN I ANTICIPATE?
On the back of this flier you will find a map showing the areas of proposed impact and when they are projected to occur. Note, this is based on the Contractor’s projected schedule which is subject to change. Work will begin on September 8th, 2009 and most of the site work will be completed by November 2009. The contractor will then stop work until signal poles and controllers have been received and tested by WSDOT. The contractor will return to install the signal improvements in March 2010, or when the controller is approved by WSDOT. The intent of this plan is to complete excavating and paving before winter weather hits. The contractor is only allowed to close through lanes during the hours of 9:00 am and 3:00 pm to reduce commute impacts.
