DM Disposal is committed to providing the safest possible service for all Customers. If weather or road conditions prevent the collection of garbage, recycling, or yard waste in your area, please remove the containers from the curb at the end of the day.
For Garbage not serviced due to weather or road conditions, you may set out up to twice the regular amount of garbage on your next collection day for no additional charge in one week.
If Recycling is not serviced, additional recycling will be collected the next recycling day in two weeks at no charge. You can set this material out in 32-gallon cans with handles labeled "Recycling" or in boxes placed next to the cart.
If Yard Waste is not serviced due to weather, you may place additional material out on the next yard waste service date in two weeks at no charge in either paper compost bags or 32-gallon cans with handles labeled "Yard Waste". There are no credits for delayed service resulting from weather.
We recognize the inconvenience faced by Customers when there is a weather service delay. We appreciate your understanding as we strive to assure that our Customers, neighbors, and employees are safe when conditions are hazardous.

2012 budget: Message from the Mayor
“The new normal”, is perhaps the best phrase to describe the economic environment for our city. It means that we have had to adapt the expense of services to reduced revenues. We no longer expect a return to the good old days of booms following busts. Our job now is to make these days the best possible for our citizens. The City Council and staff have spent many hours preparing to effectively allocate the resources of the City, and consistently create a balanced budget for you. Our commitment is to serve the citizens to the best of our ability and keep our vision alive: “a diverse, thriving, and safe community, a welcoming place to live, work, and play”. We continue to meet the challenge of providing essential services and planning for the future.
As we look back on the past year, we are proud of our accomplishments and look forward to the challenges that will face us in 2012.
One of our biggest challenges is maintaining quality water, sewer and storm facilities. This year we have completed a rate study for those utilities. To ensure reliable and quality water, sewer and storm facilities I expect there will be an increase to your monthly utility bill. Most of you have probably read about the desperate condition of our nation’s infrastructure. Your Orting government is committed to not allow this to occur here. The saying “pay me now or pay me later” applies. The longer you put off maintenance, upgrades, and replacement, the costlier it becomes later with dramatic price increases. You can probably expect about a 10% increase or about $7-$8 more a month next year. I encourage you to attend City Council meetings to express your ideas and concerns.
The Storm Water utility will be the most expensive. For the last three years the City has been in the process of designing a new set back levee off the Puyallup River. Your Storm Water utility rate reflects this work. The new levee will protect the city for many years to come. It will also eliminate the need for new costly flood insurance that would have impacted about 1100 households in Orting. We still have not raised all the necessary funds to build the levee and will be going to your national and state legislators for additional funding.
We continue to be blessed with many concerned and reliable volunteers that serve the City in many capacities. We are also fortunate to have many hardworking and highly experienced employees working for the City. I would like to thank the City Council and City staff for their continued support during these difficult and challenging times. Their hard work has resulted in a balanced budget that has not compromised existing levels of service and continues to be prepared for the needs of the future.
Cheryl Temple, Mayor
